Education Minister Dipu Moni is sitting in a meeting with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the vice-chancellors of the universities on Tuesday. After this meeting, he got the idea of ​​when the universities will open. Can go However, the decision to play in universities, especially public universities, will be taken by the Academic Council and the Syndicate meeting. However, research in at least 10 public universities has shown that physical classes are less likely to start before October. Universities have not been able to complete the preparation yet; The task of vaccinating students in particular is still a long way off.

Most universities have not yet been able to provide the Ministry of Education and the UGC with accurate information on how many students have been vaccinated. Till yesterday, 15 to 16 public universities have given information about vaccination to students. Earlier, in a meeting held on August 28 at the initiative of the Ministry of Education, it was decided that the country’s universities will be able to reopen after October 15, subject to fulfillment of certain conditions, including vaccination of students. Then there was further discussion, 15 Students will have to wait 15 days to complete the vaccination by September.

Professor Dil Afraeza Begum, a member of the UGC, told Prothom Alake that students who could not be vaccinated now, who did not have a national identity card or could not get a second dose even after taking one dose of vaccine, were urged to give their information to the registrar of the concerned university. Subject to vaccination, it may be played in universities in October. At present there are 50 public universities and 108 private universities in the country. Apart from the National University, Open University, Islamic Arabic University and the affiliated institutions of Dhaka University, the rest of the universities have six and a half lakh students. Among them, about three lakh students are studying in public universities and three and a half lakh in private universities. Apart from this, 29 lakh 85 thousand 613 students are enrolled in 2260 colleges affiliated to the national universities.

And in the big seven colleges of the capital affiliated to Dhaka University, there are about two lakh students. According to the university, it has not been decided to start classes for undergraduate and postgraduate students of these colleges. However, different universities are taking online classes as well as physical or online exams. Nazrul Islam, former chairman of UGC, told Prothom Ala that the universities should be opened today and tomorrow. So preparations should be completed quickly. In this case, the students should be vaccinated on priority basis and the residential halls of the university should be made safe for the students.
