Gujarat Titans won the title for the first time in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gujarat beat Rajasthan Royals by 8 wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night.
Rajasthan reached the target of 131 runs given by Rajasthan with 11 balls in hand. The hero of Gujarat’s victory is captain Hardik Pandya.
He took 3 wickets with the ball and scored 34 runs with the bat. Openers Shubhaman Gill (45) and David Miller (32) remained unbeaten.
Earlier, Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bat. Jos Butler and Jeswal scored 31 runs in 4 overs in the opening over. Rajasthan captain Sanji Samson came on the wicket after Jeswal returned with 22 runs off 18 balls. However, he could not play a big innings despite being set.
Rajasthan captain returned to the dressing room with Gujarat Hardik Pandya’s 80 runs. He made 14 runs from 11 balls. Legspinner Rashid Khan returned Devdut Padikkal for 69 off the fifth ball of the twelfth over.
Hardik gave the biggest push to Rajasthan with the first ball of the 13th over. He returned the highest run-scorer of the tournament, Jos Butler. 39 off 35 balls from Butler’s bat.
After losing 4 wickets for 69 runs, Rajasthan managed to score 130 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Ryan Pollen scored 15 runs in the end. Hardik took 3 wickets for 16 runs in 4 overs. Rashid Khan gave away 17 wickets in 4 overs. Sai Kishore took 2 wickets for 20 runs.
